National University Renames School of Engineering and Computing
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 24, 2014 -- National University’s School of Engineering, Technology and Media has officially changed its name to the School of Engineering and Computing, effective July 1. The updated name is meant to reflect more clearly the School’s innovative programs that prepare students for professions in technology-related fields relevant to 21st Century needs. The private, nonprofit university has expanded offerings at the School in recent years to include specialties such as Cyber Security and Information Assurance, and Data Analytics.
“We believe the name of School of Engineering and Computing more clearly reflects our emphasis on providing our students a strong foundation of high-level computing and engineering skills as they relate to a range of opportunities in fields such as electrical and computer engineering, computer science, cyber security, and data analytics,” said School of Engineering and Computer Dean John A. Cicero. “This focus aligns with our mission of preparing students to be leaders in solving 21st century demands for more effective computing technologies, cyber security, sustainable engineering designs, and digital communications.”
According to a recent report by the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program, “Still Searching: Job Vacancies and STEM Skills,” skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) are in high demand relative to supply, resulting in strong job prospects for trained professionals.
The School of Engineering and Computing has developed a reputation for its innovative programs, which are closely aligned with industry trends. For example, the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security designated National University as a “National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education” for its Cyber Security and Information Assurance program. The School also recently announced academic collaborations with D&K Engineering, a global product realization company specializing in the design, engineering and manufacturing of complex electromechanical products and equipment.
The School of Engineering and Computing was renamed following a collaborative discussion initiated by the School’s faculty that resulted in a recommendation approved by campus leadership and the National University’s Board of Trustees. For a full list of programs that include opportunities to earn certificates and associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, please refer to the School of Engineering and Computing website.
