National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Pathways to STEM Reaches Even More Students
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 27, 2016 -- Envision is proud to announce that the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Pathways to STEM will be held in 12 states in the summer of 2017, up from seven national locations in the previous year.
NYLF Pathways to STEM is a summer learning experience designed for aspirational students in grades 3-5 who will evolve into next generation innovators, engineers, doctors, software developers, and scientists.
By the year 2020, it is projected that more than 80% of jobs will require specialized skills and technical training. NYLF Pathways to STEM gives today’s students the foundation on which to build the skills they will need to succeed. According to a recent survey of Envision program alumni, today’s students are most interested in the fields of health and medicine and engineering as possible future careers.
NYLF Pathways to STEM is designed to give future leaders the unprecedented opportunity, while still in elementary school, to discover their personal strengths and to begin to acquire the leadership and life skills needed for academic and career success.
Beyond STEM, this program is focused on five skills that are essential to success: communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and goal-setting.
“Opportunities and careers in the STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and medicine—continue to grow at historic rates,” says Andrew Potter, Chief Academic Officer at Envision. “That’s why we are so pleased to be able to help more students across the country gain early exposure to these important fields, while enhancing the skills they need to compete and collaborate in these careers.”
Students who attend NYLF Pathways to STEM have the opportunity to program a robot, step into the role of a doctor, and investigate a crime in specially developed simulations. While having fun and making new friends, they will also gain new skills that they can apply in school and in their community after the program is over.
In addition, Envision is proud to enhance and enrich our STEM programs by incorporating select high-quality learning resources from our newest educational content partner, Discovery Education. Parents of NYLF Pathways to STEM students overwhelmingly rate the relevance of the program curriculum at a 4 or 5 on a five point scale.
