Native American Enterprise Management Certificate Program to Launch at Oklahoma City University
Oklahoma City (PRWEB) November 12, 2015 -- Officials with Oklahoma City University and the Chickasaw Nation today announced the launch of the Native American Enterprise Management Certification Program during the Spring 2016 semester.
“This new educational focus with an Oklahoma industry partner the caliber of the Chickasaw Nation continues Oklahoma City University’s commitment to enhancing opportunities for business leaders across a wide array of industries to support the ever-changing business landscape in our state,” said OCU President Robert Henry.
Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby praised university and tribal leaders who recognized the importance of creating an avenue for individuals to gain experiential knowledge in the industry.
“The Chickasaw Nation has a long-standing strategic partnership with OCU and the Meinders School of Business,” said Governor Anoatubby. “We appreciate and respect the dedicated and knowledgeable faculty and staff at this university. We share an inherent understanding of the critical importance of leadership and management training. This rigorous, new certification program will emphasize the importance of education programs based not simply in theoretical findings, but also in the practical application of human relations problem-solving, which is a critical component of the Chickasaw philosophy of enterprise management.”
Meinders School of Business Dean Steven C. Agee said the certification program extends OCU’s support of Native American businesses and students by providing focused and relevant curricular topics taught by experienced faculty with an efficient and self-paced structure through both online courses and immersive, on-campus workshops. Oklahoma City University School of Law’s American Indian Law and Sovereignty Center has developed the content for the legal and regulatory component of the program.
“The program offers a multi-faceted curriculum using examples and case studies, real-time applied projects, and videos from actual industry executives and managers that educate with content based on topics Native American tribes have shared,” said Dean Agee. “This curriculum is rigorous, comprehensive and real-world based. Our hope is that it enhances the management capabilities of one our state’s largest employers in various emerging industries.”
The certification program is taught as nine modules with areas of focus in authentic leadership, Native American legal and regulatory; human resource development; marketing and patron satisfaction; information technology; gaming math and data analysis for decision making; managerial accounting and controls; and strategic planning and decision making. It also includes two residential institutes, which are experiential workshops enabling students to apply theories learned to real-world problems.
Certificate completion is expected to take roughly 200 hours of course work and study. The program is designed to be completed in one year.
University and tribal leaders met roughly 18 months ago to determine the business and leadership development needs for the state’s enterprise workforce as well as to establish a program that not only builds a knowledgeable workforce but also gives people interested in enterprise management the opportunity for career advancement.
