Navy SEAL Shot 27 Times Competes in Ironman World Championship in Kona to Raise Money for Veteran's Suffering from TBI and PTSD
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 04, 2015 -- Mike Day, a former Navy SEAL who was shot 27 times during a mission in Iraq in 2007, will compete in the Ironman World Championships in Kona on October 10th.
Mike is running the race to raise awareness and funding for veterans who have incurred Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) through combat and the cutting-edge treatments that restore their quality of life. More than 300,000 post 9/11 combat veterans are suffering from symptoms of TBI upon returning home from the war.
The Navy SEAL already completed a half Ironman in Florida this year, raising over $130,000 for his fellow soldiers.
Mike wants new treatments to be available for those who don’t respond to traditional methods. "My life's mission is now not about me," he wrote on his site. "Rather it is to care for and lead my wounded brothers and sisters. My fellow warriors deserve the best available treatment for their injuries."
A staggering 22 veterans take their own lives each day. Service members return home only to face another battle against invisible wounds where treatment options currently provided are unsuccessful.
