NCPG Urges Responsibility as Lottery Fever Heats Up
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 16, 2013 -- Keith Whyte, Executive Director, National Council on Problem Gambling states, “High lottery jackpots and holiday promotions are an opportunity to provide responsible gaming messages designed to help gamblers make informed decisions about their play.” Here are four simple responsible gaming tips to know:
• Minors are prohibited from most forms of gambling. Make sure you know what is legal and what is not in your state.
• Set a limit of time and money spent gambling.
• Don’t gamble to escape feelings of anxiety, stress or depression.
• Know where to get help for a gambling problem.
The National Problem Gambling Helpline (800.522.4700) is the national toll free and confidential single point of access for problem gambling help. State lotteries and broadcast media are asked to incorporate responsible gaming messages and the Helpline into their coverage of this week’s Mega Millions jackpots. The NCPG is also currently engaged in a campaign to increase public awareness about the impact of giving lottery products as gifts to minors. Whyte continues: “Large jackpots and holiday themed tickets may tempt adults and children into playing irresponsibly. Make sure that if you choose to play, you do so legally, within limits and for entertainment. If gambling becomes a problem, call the National Helpline.”
NCPG is the national advocate for problem gamblers and their families. NCPG is neutral on legalized gambling and works with all stakeholders to promote responsible gaming.
