Nearly $15,000 Awarded to The Junior League of Phoenix for Recognition of Community Impact
Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) June 02, 2016 -- The Junior League of Phoenix (JLP) was honored with three awards and received nearly $15,000 from the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) during the AJLI 94th Annual Conference in Atlanta on May 14. JLP received recognition for its work during the 2015-16 year with the Community Impact Award, the 2016 Rising Star Award, and an honorable mention for the Vision Award.
“Our annual awards program celebrates the outstanding accomplishments and significant contributions that Junior Leagues make in their communities, day in and day out,” said AJLI President Ellen Rose, a member of the Junior League of the City of New York. “But this is more than just an awards program for our Leagues; it also celebrates the commitment of the women who design and implement these initiatives and exemplify the spirit of volunteer leadership that has been a feature of The Junior League for 115 years.”
JLP received the Community Impact Award for its work with its Kids in the Kitchen community program, which is a hands-on initiative aimed at educating children and their families on the importance of nutrition and fitness to empower them to make healthy lifestyle choices. Sponsored by Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures, the Community Impact Award recognizes up to two Junior Leagues for projects that have achieved significant impact by responding to community needs that are unmet or underserved. JLP received $10,000 as part of the award to further the Kids in the Kitchen initiative. JLP also won the award in 2014 for its ROCKETS program, a program that promotes early childhood development of science skills.
JLP member Jessica Eldridge is the recipient of the 2016 Rising Star Award, AJLI’s highest award for individual members. Each year, the Rising Star Awards recognize two emerging leaders from within the 292 independent Junior Leagues in four countries. Eldridge was selected for the award in recognition of her dedication to expanding JLP’s Kids in the Kitchen program within the Phoenix community.
“Jessica’s investment and unwavering dedication to the League in her first years of membership is an exceptional example of the leadership and empowerment the women of JLP strive for,” said Anne Trauter, JLP President. “We are extremely proud of her many accomplishments and know she will continue to be a leader for change in the years to come.”
JLP also received an honorable mention for the Vision Award for its effort in strategically restructuring its governance committee into a separate board of directors and operations team. JLP is one of the first Junior Leagues to successfully implement a split governance structure and has become a model for other Leagues across AJLI.
