Nearly 3,000 GranuFlo Lawsuits Now Filed in Federal Mass. Litigation, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 31, 2014 -- Nearly 3,000 GranuFlo lawsuits (http://www.granuflolawsuit2014.com/) are now pending in the District of Massachusetts, where a federal litigation continues to move forward more than two years after the dialysis drug recall, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
Federal court documents updated on December 15th show 2,289 claims filed in the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts on behalf of individuals who were allegedly injured by this medication, or NaturaLyte, a similar product. Plaintiffs in these cases claim to have suffered sudden cardiac death, cardiopulmonary arrest, heart attacks, strokes and other life-threatening heart injuries, which they allege the drug’s manufacturer, Fresenius Medical Care, failed to properly warn about. (In re Fresenius GranuFlo/Naturalyte Dialysate Litigation, MDL No. 2428)
“As we are representing numerous individuals in the GranuFlo recall litigation underway in Massachusetts, we are not surprised to see its case list continuing to increase,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently evaluating GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuits on behalf of individuals who were allegedly injured by the dialysis medications.
GranuFlo Lawsuits
All the GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuits now pending in the District of Massachusetts allege life-threatening cardiovascular injuries caused by the dialysis medications, which were subject to a Class I recall in June 2012 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This federal action was taken two months after Fresenius issued an Urgent Product Notification that warned about the potential for its products to cause metabolic alkalosis, a condition that stems from elevated levels of bicarbonate in the body and has been associated with serious cardiovascular problems. According to the FDA’s recall notice, GranuFlo and NaturaLyte side effects may be serious, and potentially fatal.
Thousands of dialysis lawsuits have been filed since then, both in the GranuFlo litigation underway in Massachusetts, where Bernstein Liebhard LLP is actively filing claims, and in a consolidated proceeding established in Middlesex County Superior Court. There, court documents show 3,900 dialysis suits centralized in December. (In re: Consolidated Fresenius Cases, No. MICV2013-03400-O).
Dialysis patients who experienced life-threatening cardiovascular events that were allegedly caused by GranuFlo or NaturaLyte may be entitled to join this growing litigation.
