Neptune Benson’s ETS-UV Equipment Has Been Chosen for a Fish Hatchery Upgrade in Wisconsin
Coventry, RI (PRWEB) February 09, 2016 -- Neptune Benson is an industry leader in water filtration and disinfection in the municipal, industrial and recreational water markets. Its ETS-UV brand is well established as a leading UV manufacturer.
The Art Oehmcke Hatchery project is an upgrade that will include two ETS-UV UVLW reactors to disinfect the Madeline Lake and Clear Lake water for use in the hatchery. The UV reactors will disinfect incoming water to ensure contaminants are not exchanged between the hatchery and surrounding bodies of fresh water. Water quality is an essential factor in effectively raising fish from juveniles to healthy adults. Low water quality may result in outbreaks of viral and bacterial fish diseases. To prevent an infection cycle between farms and natural fish populations, a UV system is used to treat water entering and circulating within the farm. UV disinfection is an ideal solution for fish farms and hatcheries because it is a chemical free treatment that will not create by-products that could harm the fish stock or aquatic life, and is non-selective in the destruction of waterborne bacteria, pathogens, viruses and microorganisms.
"Our use of Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling, or CFD, allows us to design the most efficient solution for the hatchery," said Jon McClean, President of ETS-UV. "This technology allows us to deliver the highest UV dose with the lowest power while using the fewest number of lamps." The outlet connection is chamfered to slow the velocity of the water leaving the UV chamber, which improves performance. The system has automated wipers to keep the lamps free from fouling and has an access hatch to make routine maintenance easier and quicker. These systems are in use at other fish farms and water reclamation facilities across the USA.
"We take great pride in being associated with projects that have meaningful environmental impact." said Ken Rodi, CEO of Neptune Benson. "Protecting the fish stocks developed in Wisconsin ensures future generations will be able to enjoy this natural resource for years to come."
The State of Wisconsin is home to 84,000 river miles that flow through 15,000 lakes and millions of wetland areas. The Art Oehmcke Hatchery is one of 13 hatcheries and rearing stations where millions of fish are raised for stocking the lakes and rivers in Wisconsin. Hatcheries like the Art Oehmcke Hatchery are vital to ecosystems where fish populations are dwindling or there is little or no natural fish reproduction. This facility hatches and rears muskellunge, walleye, and suckers in a seasonal operation.
