Neptune Introduces NFC Version of the Pine
Montreal, Quebec (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- Neptune Computer Inc., a Canadian start-up that recently raised around $700,000 on Kickstarter, today announced a new NFC (near field communication) version of the Pine with 8GB of storage space. Open today for pre-orders on Kickstarter starting at $259, this version of the Pine will ship to consumers in Q2 of 2014.
"NFC capability will enable a variety of interesting applications; especially in the case of a wearable device like the Neptune Pine," said Simon Tian, Neptune’s Founder and CEO. Potential use cases include contactless transactions, data sharing, digital identification, access tokens and much more.
The Pine also has some new CMF (colors, materials, finishes) defined. The device will come in a glossy metallic finish along with a brushed metal texture on the rims and buttons, giving the Pine a subtle yet luxurious look and feel.
A 64GB version of the Pine was also recently made available, allowing users to store up to 30,000 songs, as well as plenty of apps, videos, documents and much more. This version is available on Kickstarter, starting at $349.
The Neptune Pine is the first device of its kind to offer complete standalone Android capability. In terms of connectivity, it supports quad-band GSM, 3G, 802.11 Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0. It has a 2.4-inch QVGA touchscreen, allowing it to support most of Android’s existing applications. It also boasts an internal GPS, a digital compass, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a VGA front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.
The Pine offers users up to 120 hours battery life on standby, 8 hours talk time, 10 hours of music, and 7 hours of internet usage over Wi-Fi. The Pine runs on Android Jelly Bean, the world’s most popular mobile operating system.
With only 3 days left, the Pine’s Kickstarter campaign has raised around 700% of its initial funding goal of $100,000. The Pine will start shipping to Kickstarter backers in early 2014.
