NeuroRecovery Training Institute Welcomes the Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA) Team to Louisville for Pediatric Locomotor Training Course
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) July 09, 2015 -- The NeuroRecovery Training Institute (NeuroRTI) is pleased to announce that five members of Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA)’s team will be attending the Pediatric Locomotor Training course July 31 – August 2, 2015 at Frazier Rehabilitation Institute in Louisville, Kentucky.
“We are thrilled to have received the funding to attend the Pediatric Locomotor Training course,” said Kierre Williams, National Manager of Exercise Programs at SCI-Australia. “This course will be instrumental in allowing us to train the team who will be leading our new pediatric locomotor program.” Thanks to grant funding the team recently secured to cover the training costs, they have also subsidized the treatment of five children through their new pediatric program.
The intensive course, provided in cooperation with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation NeuroRecovery Network, will review the latest research conducted by Dr. Susan Harkema and Dr. Andrea Behrman in activity-based therapy as it applies to the pediatric population with neurological dysfunction including spinal cord injury, brain injury, and cerebral palsy. Participants will learn not only the skill of locomotor training, the evaluation process, and progression, but also unique aspects when delivering this intervention to children.
“We are excited that the SCI-Australia’s team will be able to join us for the pediatric-focused, activity-based course in locomotor training this July,” said Dr. Andrea Behrman, PhD, PT, FAPTA, University of Louisville Department of Neurological Surgery Professor, and Co-Director of the Reeve Foundation NeuroRecovery Network. “We look forward to seeing our course, geared specifically for children age 1-12 years with spinal cord injury or other neurological disorders, advance the initiation and growth of a successful program to serve the pediatric population in Australia.”
Andrea Behrman, PhD, PT and Shelley Trimble, PT, Pediatric Rehabilitation and Research Specialist, Pediatric NeuroRecovery Program, Frazier Rehabilitation Institute will teach the course.
