New 2012 Viognier From Sonoma’s Starlite Vineyards Promises Young, Summer-ripe Fruit Flavors
GEYSERVILLE, CALIF. (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- Starlite Vineyards, the premier Sonoma County boutique winery, today announced the release of its 2012 Viognier, a new vintage perfect for summer. The wine boasts crisp, cool flavors ripe for summertime drinking.
The vibrant aroma of Starlite’s 2012 Viognier blends orange blossoms, apricots and honeysuckle with hints of citrus. On the palate, the summer-ripe fruit flavors combine with intriguing mineral elements. The result is an audacious full-bodied wine with a long and crisp finish. Fermented in French oak barrels, the wine was aged “sur lie” for six months with weekly stirring, to give it a more complex, soft-as-cream mouth-feel.
The Sonoma winery’s previous Viognier release, the 2010 Viognier, received 93 points from the Beverage Tasting Institute.
“Perhaps nothing signals the dog days of summer better than a glass of white wine, and Starlite’s latest release delivers the notable characteristics of a great Viognier,” said Arman Pahlavan, proprietor of Starlite Vineyards. “Our 2012 Viognier is ‘Condrieu’ in style and has considerable body and complexity, but doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s perfect for barbecues, garden parties or just a lazy afternoon by the pool.”
Most Viogniers are best consumed young, and the 2012 Starlite Vineyards Viognier is no exception. Its heady, floral flavors hold their own and shine best against bold, spicy foods, including curry and southeast Asian cuisines.
The wine is currently available for retail purchase at the Starlite Vineyards Tasting Room (5511 Highway 128, Geyserville, Calif.) and on its website.
The 2012 Viognier joins Starlite Vineyards’ highly praised collection of varietals, including a seductive 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon released earlier this year. The company has received 92 or more points for four of its vintages – including the 2007 Zinfandel, 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2010 Viognier and 2006 Zinfandel – from the Beverage Tasting Institute and Wine Enthusiast.
