New ASF Partnership Focused on Recovery of both Disabled Veterans and Wild Atlantic Salmon
St. Andrews, NB (PRWEB) September 14, 2015 -- The Atlantic Salmon Federation and Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing are partnering to further the recovery of injured and disabled veterans through educational and conservation-minded angling opportunities.
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF), a nonprofit that supports disabled active military and veterans through fly fishing, is working closely with another non-profit, the Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) to give veterans the opportunity to enjoy the healing properties of nature and fly fishing. ASF supports a diverse range of programs to further the conservation and protection of wild Atlantic salmon. It is through the activities, infrastructure, and support of ASF that PHWFF participants will have new opportunities to heal. PHWFF veteran participants are new fly fishers, conservationists, and stewards, whose exposure and involvement with the work of ASF will play a key-role in their journey to recovery.
“Nature is very good at healing the soul,” said Bill Taylor, President of ASF. “Many of the anglers who are members of ASF, including me, look to fly fishing to escape the pressures of daily life. This is doubly important for people who have been wounded in combat. ASF is honored to participate and help these wounded warriors heal through PHWFF.”
Through involvement with the work and activities of ASF, veterans will advance their skills in the sport of fly fishing while joining a new community of friends, mentors, and educators at ASF. The educational component of both organizations missions’ couple perfectly with the conservation ethos embedded in the sport of fly fishing.
“Fly fishing provides disabled veterans in our programs the opportunity to diffuse their problems and frustrations through a connection to nature, said Ellen Killough, CEO of PHWFF. “The hands-on, educational opportunities offered through the partnership with ASF will enable these veterans to further their own journey of recovery while gaining a greater appreciation of these important fisheries and contribute to their development as conservation-minded anglers.”
This new partnership provides an outstanding new venue for PHWFF participants to continue on their journey of healing and recovery, while becoming involved in the important work of restoring wild Atlantic salmon.
