New Bathroom Finder App, BathroomMap®, Helps People with Medical Needs Who Urgently Need a Bathroom When Traveling

Contrary to recent trends in bathroom apps, BathroomMap does not facilitate a paid, social or crowdsourced model, but rather uses a proprietary algorithm to identify and rate local establishments that have clean, available restrooms in any given area, and lists them free of charge.
BathroomMap creator Adam Troy, Ph.D., developed the app after noticing that current bathroom finder applications were inadequate and included outdated bathroom databases, unreliable user-submitted data, private homes, and impractical restaurants or businesses. To ensure the best user experience, restrooms in BathroomMap are rated based on multiple characteristics, shown on an interactive map, and sorted by distance. Each listing includes directions and contact information with the goal of helping travelers and those with health issues avoid the stress associated with not knowing the location of the closest restroom.
“Besides everyday bathroom needs, there are millions of people with health conditions such as Crohn’s Disease, Overactive Bladder, Ulcerative Colitis, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome that may experience urgent restroom needs,” said Dr. Adam Troy, creator of BathroomMap and President of Behavioral Research Group. “They can’t afford to be directed to a bathroom that doesn't exist or requires permission from an employee or private homeowner.” Dr. Troy notes that pregnant women as well as families with children or senior citizens could benefit from the app.
The app is unique in that it rates bathrooms based on the likelihood of finding a bathroom at a given location, the comfort of the establishment to public visitors, and the cleanliness of the restrooms based on the type of establishments in which they’re located. The app also includes a click-to-call feature that allows users to communicate with the business in which the public bathroom is located. GPS integration provides directions to bathrooms and continuously updates the list and map in real time as users are walking or driving. BathroomMap can assist with trip-planning as well and find bathrooms in any alternate location entered by the user prior to traveling, reducing anticipatory anxiety of finding a bathroom during an emergency.
