New Book ‘On Mason Mountain’ Is a Moving Story of Love, Loss and Justice

The reasons for such abductions are many but the end results are still pretty similar; parents, deeply traumatized, grieving for their lost children. And what’s worse, the odds on recovering these lost children are somewhere between slim and none. A large percentage is transported to another state or country, making their trail almost impossible to follow. In author Gary Kalter’s new book “On Mason Mountain,” the story tells of a group of parents who have lost their children in a horrible accident only to find that things are not always as they appear.
The book revolves around the lives of five young couples from all across America and from all walks of life; working class couples like Michael Barnum, a real estate salesman and his wife Karen, and Michael and Marie Corritore, owners of an Italian restaurant in Aspen; and Nathaniel Whitcup, owner and president of a large conglomerate and his wife, Winnie. One thing brings them all together, and that is the opportunity to live in a community and an environment that has never existed before. William Everett Langston created his Mason Mountain, just outside of Aspen, in the mountains of Colorado. The couples quickly get acquainted with one another and develop close ties and start having families. They start living perfect lives, in complete bliss and contentment. That is until a horrible accident occurs causing the apparent deaths of all their children. Their lives are sent into a downward spiral that leaves each couple desperate to find solace. Years pass with the group still struggling to accept the loss. That is until an adopted six-year-old in Seattle, Washington, begins to have uncontrollable nightmares about being pulled off a bus and drugged. The FBI is called in and finds similarities between the child’s nightmare and a criminal syndicate specializing in the abduction and selling of very young children. The FBI soon wages an all out search that yield’s shocking results. This book is an engrossing story of love, loss and justice.

About the Author
Gary Kalter divides his time between New York City and Boca Raton, Florida. He obtained a B.A. from the University of Bridgeport and began a very brief career in advertising. He spent a few exhilarating, but impoverished years in N.Y.C. as a struggling singer/songwriter before joining his grandfather in the pawnbroking business which at that time did business in Lincoln Center. It still does business today on Amsterdam Avenuie and 95th street as Lincoln Square Pawnbrokers.
A year ago he damaged a disc in his back playing golf and after 6 months, in an effort to maintain his sanity, he took out his computer and began writing his first novel. It was love at first rewrite.
Gary has been married to Shelly Kalter for over 38 years and has two sons; Jonathan, who lives in Los Angeles and is in the music business and Daniel who runs Lincoln Square Pawnbrokers in New York City.
