New book ‘Pushkin's Ode to Liberty’ shares insights into Russian poet’s life

Considered by many as Russia's greatest poet, Pushkin is to Russia what William Shakespeare is to the English. He lived to the age of 37 when he was shot in a duel to defend his wife's honor. During his lifetime, he wrote about love, liberty and freedom, while also having to deal with being exiled and the constraints of censorship and the heavy oppression of autocracy and religion.
In "Pushkin's Ode to Liberty," DuVernet takes readers deep into the details of Pushkin's life. She tells a story that is crafted using Pushkin's poems and letters with incidents that prove to have shaped his life in interesting ways. It actually calls out the person identified as having written the anonymous letter that led to Pushkin's actions regarding the duel that ended his life and gave birth to a legend.
