New Book Shares Definitive Reference to American Swords
NEW WINDSOR, Md. (PRWEB) August 28, 2015 -- Author Daniel D. Hartzler began to understand American swords after publishing “Silver Mount Swords-The Lattimer Family Collection.” From that time on, he began to photograph and do his research diligently. He claims that no one has organized swords makers into a geographical area of production. Because of this, he was inspired to write “American Silver-Hilted, Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords Volume I: According to Their Geographical Areas of Mounting” (published by Xlibris).
This book gives the sword enthusiast an opportunity to observe edged weapons made, for the most part, in the United States that display regional characteristics that often transcend state lines. The makers of these swords, many of whom were silversmiths as well, had learned the skills and peculiarities of their masters during apprenticeship before yielding to the desires of the shop owner as journeymen. Later, many of these often relocated to new localities, practicing their former traits before they could open their own establishment, where they would be free to exercise their own creative ingenuities.
“This publication includes 673 sword makers in two volumes of 21 chapters, 799 total pages and 700 photographs,” Hartzler says. “Most of the materials in this book are based on new research and was not previously made available.”
An in-depth, definitive reference to American swords, Hartzler hopes that through the publication of “American Silver-Hilted, Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords Volume I,” readers will learn some regional information and the individual characteristics which were present in the superb artistry found in these swords.

Daniel D. Hartzler was born and raised in New Windsor, Maryland. He is a fourth generation funeral director with two funeral homes in Carroll County and two in Frederick County.
