New Book Traces Origin of ‘The Color Line’
Teaneck, N.J. (PRWEB) February 11, 2015 -- The lack of information regarding the origins of the color line prompted author Ethan Malveaux to tap into different sources to trace where ethnic biases and racial prejudices came from. “The Color Line: A History” (published by Xlibris) seeks to historically follow the advent of the color classifications of white and black by using primary and secondary sources to explain this social and psychological concept which still influences our world.
“The Color Line: A History” is about how the ethnic biases of the European of Ancient Rome morphed into the racial prejudice of modern times through a process that was centuries in the making. From the collapse of Ancient Rome to the rise of Christendom, then to the discovery of the American continents through to the landmark Supreme Court decision of Plessy v. Ferguson, Malveaux takes the reader on a journey that will shatter preconceived notions of European and African relations.
Whereas most books focus exclusively on slavery as the main point of European and African contact in the past, “The Color Line: A History” talks about how the African had more of a complex relationship with European Civilization that went far beyond the association with the slave condition. Banking on the fact that what most people believe about white and black relations is erroneous, Malveaux shows that the color line is not a crude conception but is in reality intricate and intellectual.
