New Commemorative Book Celebrates CanAm Veterans’ Challenge Bike Ride
Holbrook, New York (PRWEB) December 24, 2014 -- In June 2014, 15 injured veterans from Canada, Denmark and the United States rode bicycles, hand cycles and recumbent bicycles nearly 800 miles from Ottawa, Ontario to Washington, D.C. in the inaugural CanAm Veterans’ Challenge. “Capital to Capital,” the new digital book released by non-profit World T.E.A.M. Sports about this inspiring ride, is now available through multiple online book sellers.
Featuring more than 50 full color photographs taken during the two-week ride, the 92 page book can be downloaded for digital book readers through multiple sellers, including Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and Apple’s iBooks. A portion of the proceeds from all online book sales will be applied to upcoming inclusive sporting events from the New York-based national non-profit organization.
Having created and directed numerous outdoor events for disabled and able-bodied persons since 1990, World T.E.A.M. Sports launched the CanAm Veterans’ Challenge in June 2014 as an opportunity for military veterans to undertake a extraordinary journey from one nation to another. Participating veterans have life-changing injuries ranging from amputation to blindness to paralysis to post-traumatic stress. Yet, all veterans not only finished the ride, but rode every mile.
Air Force veteran Harry Carr’s day-by-day journal of his personal experiences provide readers an intimate view of the ride, which passed through New York State, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia on route to Washington.
“Lifelong friendships have been made and these times will never be forgotten,” wrote Carr of the ride.
U.S. Army Master Sergeant Marina Libro retired from active duty in 2011 following several service-related injuries. She wrote the heart-felt conclusion to the book, noting that the experience changed not only her life, but also the lives of her colleagues: “This is forcing me to get out of my comfort zone of wanting to hang back and be part of the invisible crowd because now I have to be front and center.”
World T.E.A.M. Sports CEO and President Van Brinson provided the book’s introduction. He came away from the CanAm Veterans’ Challenge impressed by the commitment of the participating veterans: “Each wrote a blank check to their respective governments for an amount up to, and including, their lives to maintain the freedom their countrymen enjoy.”
Scheduled to return in 2016, the CanAm Veterans’ Challenge showed that persons with disabilities can lead productive, meaningful lives. “Capital to Capital” helps remember this timeless adventure and inspires both disabled and able-bodied readers.
Corporate sponsors for the inaugural CanAm Veterans’ Challenge included Realty Capital Securities LLC, American Portfolios Financial Services, Benson Botsford LLC, Exit 10, Gerstein Fisher, Penske Truck Rental, Pershing and Freshbikes. Partners included Wounded Warriors Canada and Soldier On from the Canadian Armed Forces.
