New Condoms by ConsentBro.com Aim to Reduce What The White House Calls a "Stunning Problem" – Rape on US College Campuses
Vienna, Virginia (PRWEB) February 04, 2015 -- There is an epidemic of sexual assaults on US college campuses. ConsentBro.com hopes their new condoms with included Sexual Consent Agreement will help educate college students about rape, sexual assault, and what consent is, and is not.
According to the US Department of Justice, one in five female college students will be raped by the time they graduate. "No one is more likely to be raped or sexually abused in the US today, than a female on a college campus, said Lofton, creator of ConsentBro.com condoms.
"We wanted to come up with something tangible to help men understand what consent is and is not. Our condoms help lead to a discussion of the problem and encourage young people to talk to each other about sexual violence. We think positive conversation will come out of this," said Lofton.
Many men don’t know what rape is. "If you ask most men if they've ever raped somebody most will likely say no. If you ask them if they've ever gotten someone drunk in order to have sex with them, put undue pressure on them, or maybe had sex with someone who was semi-conscious, they're more likely to say yes," Lofton said. "The big question is what is consent? If a girl has had one drink can she give consent? If later that same night she's had 2 or 3 more drinks, can she still give consent?"
Recent changes have come amid national attention on issues of sexual violence on US college campuses. Obama has created a task force and given them 90 days to come up with recommendations for colleges to prevent and respond to sexual crimes, increase public awareness of each school's track record, and hold schools accountable if they don't confront the problem. California's new "Yes means Yes" law makes it the first state to outline what sexual consent is on its public college campuses. "Lack of protest or resistance does not mean consent," the law states, "nor does silence mean consent."
"Our condoms are not going to put and end to sexual violence on campus," said Lofton. "But if they help shine a little light on the problem, get young people communicating, then it's a step in the right direction."
