New Device Protects Computer Users from Internet Hackers While They're Away

There are two models of the Ethernet Lock. The Motion Sense model uses a sensor on the front of the unit to detect motion. If motion hasn't been detected within a set time, it breaks the internet connection with a pair of electronic relays. Detection time can be set from 1-20 minutes. Upon detection of motion, the connection is restored instantly. Typical time for windows to recognize the connection is 1-2 seconds. Multiple users can still interact with the computer if that is required. For long downloads or online computer backups a disconnect switch turns the unit off.
The Remote Control model provides internet disconnection by a wireless key fob style remote control. The user chooses when want protection, and when they need it back. Even in the internet era, not all computer tasks require internet access, and the remote control model provides the same high level of protection in those situations. Specific uses include controlling kids internet or streaming video access during certain hours or ensuring unauthorized emails aren't sent maliciously from the computer by another user or malware.
Both units provide the convenience of not having to access the back panel of a computer to disconnect it the ethernet connection by hand. The motion sense model adds the extra convenience of performing this function automatically every time the user steps away, a tedious task most users would likely forget to do themselves. Hookup is in between the user's cable modem or router and their computer. No data is stored on the unit in any manner or directed elsewhere.
