New Drama Unveils the Cracked Chessboard of the NHS

The story is based on Emberton’s own experiences as a hospital director in NHS.

The book follows opportunistic entrepreneur Dennis Deane as he inadvertently cooperates in a money-laundering scheme within his hospital. Based on true 1970’s events, “The Cracked Chessboard” follows Deane as he’s forced to move money around to balance the books, aiding in the prime minister’s campaign for re-election. Set against a dramatic background, Emberton expertly laces veins of humor and intrigue into the plot.

Elizabeth Emberton spent 23 years on Cheshire County Council, nine years in the NHS as a member of a Cheshire Health Authority, and six years as Chairman of a Health Trust battling against officialdom on behalf of the electorate, parents, teachers and patients.
