New Episode of “The Dr. Bo Show” Podcast Series Discusses Bad Doctors and The Credibility of Science
Sudbury, MA (PRWEB) April 23, 2015 -- In the newest episode of his question and answer podcast series “The Dr. Bo Show,” Bo Bennett, PhD, addresses a question from his audience about the trustworthiness of science when faced with doctors and therapists who aren’t always good at what they do or aren’t always in agreement despite their science-based training. If they are often wrong, and they disagree on science-based issues, why should science be trusted?
In a conversational and engaging tone, and applying his astute critical thinking skills, Bennett examines how this association—that the credibility of science is dependent on the behavior of doctors—is so easily established, and explains why snubbing science for these reasons just doesn’t add up. “This whole idea of rejecting science because of bad doctors is a mental shortcut based on association,” says Bennett. “This is a heuristic gone wrong.”
Using an example from advertising in the 1950s, Bennett illustrates contradictory behaviors of doctors that generate questions about the integrity of science, when those who are trained in the scientific process, fail that process. He also explains the difference between practitioners and researchers, and explores the idea that personal biases and subjective experiences can influence a doctor’s methods and contradict their science-based training. “Some doctors have a strong understanding of the scientific method and are consistent with science-based medicine, practice, and research while others are not,” says Bennett. “Trust science as a method, but approach any claims with a healthy dose of skepticism.”
