New Exhibition Design Concept 'Shellsmart' Takes Shell Scheme and Small Stand Space Seriously

Go to a typical B2B exhibition at a major UK venue like the NEC, Olympia or Excel, and you will often see hundreds of shell scheme stands. These are the small exhibition booths that the show organisers create to satisfy the demand for small stand space at their show.
As opposed to ‘space only’ exhibition space, shell scheme booths have a structure; normally one, two or three walls, a ceiling grid and fascia. Exhibitors are then able to dress their booth with graphic panels, a display system and product display.
Unfortunately, lack of imagination on the part of the exhibitor or their exhibition contractor, often means that these shell scheme stands are not utilised to their maximum potential.
Alan comments: “the problem is made worse because most exhibition designers don’t take shell scheme projects seriously. Combine this with low client expectations and the result is poorly organised, incoherent design, that doesn’t live up to the possibilities.”
