New Headset Stimulates Athletes’ Ability to Acquire Skills and Strength
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) August 02, 2016 -- Power Design Services, manufacturer of quality printed circuit boards and prototype PCB’s in San Jose, CA, has partnered with San Francisco-based Halo Neuroscience to produce the Halo Sport, a headset that delivers electric current through the skull and into the brain of the wearer. The current travels to the brain’s motor cortex, stimulating neurons.
Power Design Services’ ability to complete fast prototype turnarounds had led to the company’s involvement in an exciting development in sports training technology.
“Neuropriming”, the science of engaging the brain in a heightened state of awareness, has been shown to improve an athlete’s ability to acquire skills and increase strength. Employed in the training programs of the U.S. ski team, major league baseball, NFL, and NBA teams, the Halo Sport is now being used in the training of track and field athletes who will compete in the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this August.
Power Design Services’s role in the creation of the Halo Sport began in May 2014. Brett Wingeier, a co-founder of San Francisco-based Halo Neuroscience, approached Power Design Services executives at that time, seeking printed circuit board prototypes for its new and promising device. The order for PCBs was a low-volume number, but time to market was critical to meet the demanding preparation schedule for athletes.
The Power Design Services (PDS) team got to work, producing turnkey, quick-turn prototypes in as little as three days. Reworks took just one day. Prototypes included rigid FR4 boards, flex circuits, and rigid-flex boards.
After two years of prototyping, Halo Neuroscience, with the help of PDS, is set to show off the results of the Halo Sport to the world. Employees of Power Design Services are proud of their contribution to the technology.
“This is another example of how PDS can help companies bring their product to market at the fastest pace possible”, says Tuan Tran, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Power Design Services. “This is what PDS is good at and we can perform extraordinary feats like this all day long. Being involved with groundbreaking technology such as that invented by Halo Neuroscience is what makes our work truly exciting and rewarding.”
