Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 26, 2014 -- Advances in understanding how Occlusion affects your teeth, and a breakthrough corrective process.
“Occlusion” by dictionary definition refers to the act of closure or the state of being closed. In dentistry the word “occlusion” has come to mean the static intercuspal relationship of the teeth and also the act of closing the teeth together. “The act of closure” and how the closing strokes of mastication and other jaw closures are influenced by the anterior teeth (anterior guidance).” John Wright * PSG Inc.
Most people simply enjoy every luscious bite of an afternoon sandwich, or salad, paying zero attention to how they are actually chewing that food. However, the way in which a person chooses to grind their food DOES make a difference?
Visualize the scene of the old cow grazing lazily through the field. Stopping to rest her head over the post of the wooden fence, she chews her hay side to side, side to side, grinding around and down, with little to no care in the world. Note the teeth of that same animal, note that they are flat, and worn down.
To relay the look and appearance of vertical chewing, think of the friendly family pup, loyal companion, and friend. Visualize this animal chomping down on a large bowl of hard round dog food. Think about the snap and crackle of the food between the teeth as they mow down, in a very straight forward and vertical way, up and down, making no mistake about breaking up the pieces as proficiently, as possible. Now visualize the actual appearance of the teeth of said animal, straight, sharp, pointed K9’s in the front that last a lifetime.
So, how does the average person chew? Is it vertical? Up and down with point and proficiency, or is it lateral? Round and round and wearing down? I.E. destroying the teeth and wearing down the enamel.
“One could say that the foundation of comprehensive dentistry lies with the dentist understanding the biologic basis of how all parts of the chewing system work together to provide stability and harmony.” Dr. Gorman’s mentors were able to observe chewing patterns within both humans, and animals, and connect the correlations to teeth shape, as well as the appearance of a healthy Bioesthetic system.
The good news, chewing is a learned behavior, the shape and condition of the teeth do effect it, as well as the placement of the jaw bone. All of the destruction can be recreated through the assistance of Dr. Gorman and his team.
In Summary
• What’s happening?
Lateral chewing is causing tooth damage and destruction.
• Why is it happening?
Based on learned behaviors people are chewing side to side instead of up and down causing the destruction.
• What can we do about it?
Have no fear! We are here to help!
Did you know a person can re-train themselves to chew vertically? The jaw line can be repositioned to a proper placing through the help of Dr. Gorman’s very specific & effective tools, and the teeth can be restored leaving a healthy, beautiful smile!
