New International Pageant Welcomes Latina Delegates Dropping Miss Universe
Los Angeles, CA. (PRWEB) July 09, 2015 -- In light of recent uproar regarding racially discriminative statements about immigrants made by owner of Miss Universe, Donald Trump ("NBC Drops Donald Trump over comments about immigrants", New York Post, June 29, 2015, http://nypost.com/2015/06/29/nbc-drops-donald-trump-over-comments-about-mexicans), the Miss Global Organization, a newly launched international pageant based in Southern California, plans to offer contestants dropping out of Miss Universe another opportunity to compete on the international stage.
“We are saddened by the fact that these women have worked so hard to get to where they are, only to be left without the opportunity to compete internationally and represent their countries with dignity,” says Miss Global director Tea Mak. “These women should be honored and respected for their decision to drop out. With this in mind, the Miss Global Organization is announcing that we will immediately accept any of the Miss Universe contestants to compete in Miss Global this year.”
In only a few short years, Miss Global has rapidly gained momentum towards joining ranks with major international pageants such as Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth. Since its inception in 2013, the Miss Global Organization has been avidly working to modernize the pageant world while embracing a more diverse selection of women who could otherwise be excluded from competing. The Miss Global’s slogan, “empowering women, embracing cultures, and embodying the beauty within” speaks to a more modern, diverse and inclusive mission – beyond just physical beauty.
In its first year, Jenna Talackova, the first transgender woman to challenge the rules of Miss Universe was invited to be a guest judge. The following year, the Miss Global pageant was held in Mexico as part of a week-long Mexican Riviera cruise, showcasing the beauty and culture of the country. This year, as the pageant continues to grow and embrace diversity, Miss Global will be the first major international pageant to accept both an American and a Native American woman to compete for an international title.
“We look forward to continuing to grow this pageant while emphasizing that we embrace women of all cultures, races and beliefs,” says Mak. “The world is changing, views are changing and we are changing with it.”
