New Jersey Litigations Schedule Status Conferences in March to Discuss C.R. Bard and Ethicon Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuits

A Calendar posted on the Court’s website indicates that Case Management Conferences will take place on March 18, 2015 in two separate proceedings created in Bergen County. Parties involved in the C.R. Bard litigation will convene at 10:30 a.m., while the one involving Ethicon’s line of Gynecare mesh implants has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Mesh lawsuits filed against both these manufacturers allege mesh erosion, chronic pain, pain during sexual intercourse, infection and other vaginal mesh complications that occurred after use of their products. According to court documents, transvaginal mesh lawsuits in New Jersey have been moving forward steadily as the nationwide litigation involving these products continues to progress. As of February 7th, 2015, nearly 1,670 claims C.R. Bard mesh lawsuits had been filed in Bergen County, at which time 7,620 were centralized in the Ethicon docket. Although cases in these litigations involve separate products, their claims are similar: women allege pain, organ damage and other vaginal mesh complications they were inadequately warned about by the manufacturers.
In addition to lawsuits filed in New Jersey, Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon unit and C.R. Bard Inc. are also preparing to defend mesh-related claims consolidated in federal court.
