Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) September 15, 2017 -- JoVE, the premier producer and publisher of video resources for scientific research and education, today announced the immediate availability of Lab Safety and Lab Animal Research Collections as well as a major expansion of its Chemistry Series. The new videos are the latest additions to JoVE Science Education, an innovative library of easy-to-understand video demonstrations that teach key concepts and fundamental techniques. JoVE subscribers include more than 1,000 universities, colleges, and other leading research institutions.
JoVE videos are now available to uniform and thorough prepare scientists and students to operate safely within any biomedical laboratory setting, as well as instruct on how to responsibly engage with lab animals. The two new Collections are featured within the JoVE Science Education Biology Series:
Lab Safety: this collection provides safety guidelines to be followed when working with hazardous materials and equipment. The video demonstrations cover universal topics such as electrical safety and general emergency guidelines, as well as some specific safety procedures for chemistry and biology laboratories.
Lab Animal Research: this collection is a comprehensive video guide for appropriate lab animal care and use. Since a majority of biomedical research is focused on studies involving rodents, it is critical that every science student learns the essential procedures demonstrated in these videos.
Additionally, the JoVE Science Education Chemistry Series has expanded to more comprehensively map to undergraduate chemistry curricula. The new video collections cover basic biochemistry, additional organic chemistry topics and, available in October, inorganic chemistry. Each video presents a combination of key concepts, experiments, and real-world examples in chemistry research.
Biochemistry: this collection presents commonly used purification methods, such as affinity chromatography, as well as analytical methods, like MALDI-TOF. In addition, the videos showcase methods for assessing biomolecule interaction and function, such as co-immunoprecipitation and metabolic labeling.
Organic Chemistry II: this collection covers the theory and reactions necessary to carry out syntheses on a more advanced level. Additional videos introduce methods commonly used to analyze the reaction products such as infrared spectroscopy and polarimetry.
Inorganic Chemistry: this collection, available in October, covers a range of inorganic chemistry protocols and concepts including air-free techniques, syntheses of transition metal based compounds, core inorganic chemistry concepts like Lewis Acid and Bases, and advanced analysis techniques including EPR spectroscopy.
“Educators around the world value JoVE Science Education for its ability to uniquely visualize science in a format that students can easily comprehend and retain,” said Dipesh Navani, Ph.D., director of production at JoVE. “JoVE Science Education is equally useful teaching complex scientific topics, like Chemistry as it is instructing on fundamental skills, like how to operate safely and responsibly within a biomedical lab. In fact, based on subscriber demand, JoVE will also soon introduce an entirely new Engineering Series to ensure that Science Education is truly a comprehensive video learning platform for all STEM learners.”
