New memoir captures memories of civil rights movement
ROME, Ga. (PRWEB) January 31, 2015 -- Author Norris Kenney Allen Sr. presents a lifetime of memories from his personal life and his involvement with the civil rights movement – including his encounters with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s wife, Coretta Scott King – in his new memoir, “Excuse Me: Extraordinary Journey of my Life” (published by AuthorHouse).
“Allen documents his most memorable moments from childhood to adulthood, detailing his careers as an entrepreneur, motivational speaker and civil rights activist. The book also honors his mother, who once saved his life by walking out in front of an oncoming car, placing her hand on the hood and saying to the driver, “Excuse me.”
Allen became involved with the civil rights movement at the age of 13. He participated in parades and rallies, and canvassed neighborhoods for the cause. He was also given the exciting opportunity to serve on the security team for Coretta Scott King, and was present on the opening day of the King Center in Atlanta.
“I want to inspire others by letting them know that an ordinary person can accomplish extraordinary things,” Allen writes.
Throughout his story, Allen reflects on the impact Jesus Christ has made on him. He recalls specific events where he felt Christ’s presence and details how his faith saw him through the most difficult moments of his life.
