New Movie Suggests Jesus Used Essential Oils
Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) August 04, 2016 -- The film, which was released in July, includes interviews with medical doctors, philosophers and research scientists discussing the history of distillation, the importance of the spice trade and why Frankincense and Myrrh were given to Christ.
According to Dr. David Stewart, a Bible expert, Jesus’s mother Mary would have known how to use Frankincense and Myrrh. “Myrrh would have been rubbed over Mary’s stomach for faster post-partum healing. Frankincense would have been applied all over Jesus’s body to prevent infections. These were the cultural practices of the time.”
But did Jesus continue to use Frankincense, Myrrh as well as other oils or resins throughout his life? The film’s director, Rich Praytor says, “Nobody knows for sure but evidence suggests that he most likely would have used Frankincense during his adolescence years for cuts and bruises. He would have also used Myrrh to preserve his food and water while he traveled from town to town.”
Another famous story of Jesus and essential oils is when a woman poured spikenard on his feet and wiped it with her hair. Rachel Carter, one of the experts in the film, points out that, “Some scholars believe spikenard was actually lavender. So pouring it on Jesus’s feet would have calmed him down emotionally and physically, preparing him for the events leading up to his death.”
Rich Praytor and producer Beverly Banks have spent the last two years interviewing experts and tracking down research about essential oils and the role they have played in both history and the health industry.
Essential Oils have grown in popularity over the last two decades with major retail outlets like Whole Foods, Target and Walmart beginning to carry essential oils.
