Toledo, OH (PRWEB) June 17, 2014 -- The apron, or farmhouse sink, has seen a resurgence in popularity over the past few years. Some in the industry had speculated this trend would be short-lived. MR Direct believed otherwise, and so has launched its new line of apron-style sinks constructed of stainless steel. The use of stainless steel has been a very fashionable approach to today's kitchen design, both in appliances and sinks, and now MR Direct has used it to put a contemporary spin on this fondly remembered farmhouse-style sink. The key benefits of stainless steel include its durability, ease of maintenance, resistance to staining, and lesser expense compared to some materials. With an already successful catalog of copper apron sinks, MR Direct's research indicated that a similar line of sinks in stainless steel should prove popular; and early reports suggest this to be exactly the case.
Sinks of this farmhouse design became prolific in the U.S. during the early 20th century. Typically, they were constructed of very heavy cast iron which was enameled in white porcelain. Many were created to function as an all-in-one unit with drain boards on one or both sides, and a back-splash panel of various heights. Also, these basins often rested on legs rather than cabinets so that spills over the smooth front edge could not damage wood cabinets below. Most of these particular features and concerns have been left in the past.
Today, the front, or apron, of the sink is the main attraction. It can vary in height by manufacturer and style, but all three of the new MR Direct stainless steel aprons measure ten inches in height and extend out from the cabinetry a little over two inches. All are a full 32¾'' in overall width. One model, the 405, is a single bowl design; the 406 has dual, equal-sized bowls; and the 407 is divided into two unequal- sized bowls which can be ordered in reverse formats.
An apron-front, stainless steel sink draws attention to itself because of its distinct style and can become a great accent to the overall kitchen design. Not only does it provide this aesthetic benefit, it also offers a practical advantage. With no extra counter space between the user and the sink, the lean over to use the sink is lessened significantly.
