New National Poll Shows Top New Year's Resolutions Among American Adults
Irvine, California (PRWEB) December 30, 2015 -- According to a Harris Poll conducted on behalf of nonprofit Brandman University, some 67% of American adults are making resolutions for 2016. The top are:
• Weight Loss / Fitness (49%)
• Financial (33%)
• Education / Career (26%)
• Habit Changes (16%)
“It’s no surprise that fitness tops the list for 2016 – it does nearly every year. With that out of the way, look at the other top goals; they are focused on financial stability, career or education. The best path towards realizing those is to earn a college degree, or an advanced degree such as an MBA,” said Joe Cockrell, Chief Communications Officer for Brandman University.
Other findings from the poll show that 73 percent of Americans have made resolutions in the past, but not everyone was able to realize those goals; over half of Americans (56 percent) say that something prevented them from either pursuing or following through on an educational resolution in the past, such as going back to college to earn a degree. The top obstacles to educational goals are:
• Cost (29%)
• Lack of time to attend (16%)
• Family obligations (15%)
• “I’m too old” (14%)
• Would take too long (11%)
“Nearly a quarter of American adults started college but didn’t finish – that’s about 37 million people. Now, they’re being left behind in an economy increasingly focused on bachelor’s-prepared workers. At Brandman University our mission is to help them realize those resolutions for themselves, and their families," said Chancellor Gary Brahm.
The survey also added some questions just for fun, Cockrell added. When asked what fictional TV character has their dream job, 7 out of 10 Americans picked Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock, followed by Richard Castle from the series Castle.
If they were to go back to school, the TV/movie teacher they’d most-like to have is Charles Xavier from X-Men, followed by Professor Dumbledore from the Harry Potter seires.
