This new online portal includes a global concussion directory and search engine making it easy to find concussion related services and products as quickly as possible. There is no charge for access to the portal. The CHPs also include The Concussion Chalkboard, an easy to use, interactive guide published quarterly featuring a prominent figure in the Concussion World, concussion experts, industry leading companies and concussion survivor stories.
Concussion Health Pages aims to unite the concussion world, both locally and internationally, and allows you to search for concussion experts, cutting edge technologies and research used in identifying and managing concussions. This unique and innovative solution features industry leading companies who specialize in all aspects of concussion related services and technologies, including but not limited to emerging wearable technology, diagnostic blood tests, impact sensors, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and brain imaging devices.
The CHPs was created as an effort to make it easier for the public to connect with concussion experts and for industry professionals to connect with cutting edge technology and research. This service is more important now than it ever has been due to the emerging emphasis placed on concussions. “Concussion is the most important issue Sports Medicine providers face today,” said Dr. Steven Erickson, Medical Director at Banner Concussion. “The appropriate management of mild traumatic brain injury in athletes hinges on objectively measuring and treating visual, vestibular and cognitive deficits commonly experienced following injury.” Dr. Erickson is the featured cover for the fall publication of the Concussion Health Pages.

Today an estimated 3.8 million sports- and recreation-related concussions occur in the United States each year. Keep in mind this statistic is based on reported loss of consciousness (LOC) and it is estimated that LOC occurs less than 10 percent of the time. More concussions occur in the general population, the elderly and in the workforce compared to the sports arena. According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention:
• A concussion is a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
• A concussion is caused by a bump or blow to the head or body that causes the brain to move rapidly inside the skull
• Falls are the leading cause of TBI. Rates are highest for children aged 0 to 4 years and for adults aged 75 years and older
• Children aged 0 to 4 years, older adolescents aged 15 to 19 years, and adults aged 65 years and older are most likely to sustain a TBI
The portal also provides concussion survivors a voice by offering a platform for inspirational stories of resilience and hope.
“In my journey to recovery from a concussion, I have found connecting with other people who are recovering (or have found good resources for recovery) is such a powerful way to reduce isolation and achieve more wellness,” said Anne Forrest, a mother and prominent advocate for TBI survivors. “Knowing what someone else was able to do lifts me up and provides modeling for doing it myself. Modeling is helpful for everyone, and critical when good resources are often hard to find and the best path isn't clear, which is often the case with concussions.” Anne sustained a concussion in a minor car accident. Her story along with others are featured in the CHPs.
CHPs web portal also includes the global concussion resource directory and online search engine. The directory offers a rich collection of industry professionals from a variety of disciplines, companies, non-profit organizations, schools and sports organizations, locally and internationally, organized into easy to search categories. The online search engine allows people to search for concussion-related services and products as quickly as possible. By entering keywords, the public can easily find useful and reliable concussion information anywhere at any time.
