New novel ‘Code Blue’ features 5 college friends’ journey studying medicine
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (PRWEB) April 30, 2015 -- Five young men embark on separate coming-of-age journeys, beginning in high school. These journeys continue when these young men encounter each other in medical school in the new fiction novel by author Renee Christine Smith, "Code Blue" (published by AuthorHouse).
Brandon, Kevin, Marc, Miguel and Sun graduate from high school with acceptance letters to Bethel College’s medical program. As they mature and progress through their university studies, they create a unique bond of friendship.
The five comrades eventually land jobs as resident doctors, where each of their lives takes an unexpected turn. With new challenges, defeats and chances to start over, will the young men follow new paths? Readers are left to search for the answers in “Code Blue.”
“I want readers to take from this fictional novel that life has many journeys,” Smith says. “And when the unexpected happens, it’s possible to be given a second chance.”
An excerpt from “Code Blue”:
“‘Amarie told me what happened in Seattle,’ said Kremie.
‘My mother told you?’
‘Yes, but shush. You know I immediately prayed. I asked the Lord to shake that devil off you. I prayed because you had gone to a dark side and needed the Lord’s help to see the light. He answered my prayers. How I know is because you are sitting here talking to me.’
The tears just flowed down my face. I was so glad she couldn’t see me crying, but somehow she knew. I gave Kremie one last hug. As I walked out the door, she began to sing my favorite childhood song, ‘The Candy Man.’ (…) Just as the tide had changed for all of us in Seattle, it had changed for Kremie. It was something I had to accept. I realized that this was the last time I would see her. But I was happy I saw her. Kremie had raised me from birth and remembered everything about being my nanny.”
