New Online Course on Hazing Prevention launched to Florida Universities
Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) February 17, 2015 -- AliveTek, Inc. and HazingPrevention.Org have partnered to launch a new online hazing-prevention course for the Florida SUS (State University System).
Recognizing that hazing is a serious problem that can cause long lasting effects, both physically and psychologically, the SUS, with funding from the state legislature, introduced the Anti-Hazing Online Education Initiative. AliveTek was awarded the project in 2014.
Hazing Prevention, It’s Everyone’s Responsibility TM is an evidence-based online course, reflecting best practices established by leading academics studying hazing. The course has recently been made available to all students in the Florida SUS. This one-hour awareness and prevention based course teaches students how to recognize, prevent and report hazing. The real-life scenarios prepare students, group members and bystanders to make informed decisions, ultimately empowering them to prevent hazing. Pre and post surveys are an important part of the program, and the aggregate data will be used to further efforts for prevention in the future.
“It’s exciting to see the results as each university launches. It’s been incredible working with each program and seeing how this course is augmenting hazing prevention efforts on every Florida SUS campus.” said Sandy Mills-Alford, AliveTek, Inc. President and CEO.
“This course is a fantastic tool to increase awareness and empower students to take an active role in prevention,” said Emily Pualwan, Executive Director, HazingPrevention.Org. “In our initial testing there was a 40% increase in those who would report a hazing incident, from pre- to post-course assessment. In addition, over 80% of those who completed the course reported their awareness and knowledge about hazing increased, and 70% felt they were more empowered to be part of the solution.”
Kerry Welch, Ed. D, Associate Vice President, Student Development & Enrollment Services at the University of Central Florida added, “The University of Central Florida has been leading the effort to curb hazing at the FL SUS institutions not only by coordinating their own student participation in the online module, which has been quite strong, but also through working with the identified contact person at each SUS school to address problems and further advance this project.”
AliveTek and HazingPrevention.Org are working together to make this course available to other colleges and universities, national organizations and sports teams around the country, with fully customizable branding, imagery and data reporting.
