New Online Graduate Certificate Program from American University Helps Social Impact Sector
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- American University, one of the premier institutions in the District of Columbia, now offers an exclusive online program for professionals in or seeking to enter organizations funding or managing social impact projects. The online Graduate Certificate in Project Monitoring & Evaluation (CPM&E), available January 2014, equips participants with the skills necessary to design and implement program-based Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E).
For both funders and implementers of international development and other social impact projects, M&E expertise has become more valuable than ever as funding organizations seek more accountability for the funds they provide. Individuals with a CPM&E can more effectively monitor and evaluate projects to improve performance of funded programs and assess their impact.
Compared to the typical three-unit course program, American University’s more in-depth curriculum teaches M&E by including instruction on how to integrate plans for assessment within a project proposal, conducting impact evaluations, choosing and deploying qualitative and quantitative methods for assessment, and more. As the content of the Certificate is not targeted toward application in any one specialty or circumstance, the evaluation methods that students learn can be applied broadly in many different circumstances including complex international projects.
“This program’s curriculum offers a comprehensive, intensive ‘deep-dive’ into project impact and outcome assessments,” said Carola Weil, Dean of the School of Professional and Extended Studies at American University. “Professionals overseeing or implementing social impact projects can learn specialized skills within six months that help advance their careers and lead to more effective project results.”
The higher education landscape is very competitive and American University offers online learning to meet the needs of today’s students. Online courses are available in the various schools and colleges on campus. Courses are taught by the same prominent and accomplished faculty members teaching on campus and are as rigorous and fast-paced as traditional face-to-face classes.
