New Online Workshop Helps Educators Apply Genius Hour Concept in the Classroom
Little Falls, MN (PRWEB) June 04, 2015 -- In a continued effort to help learners connect the dots between learning and life, edtech training leader Atomic Learning recently added an online workshop called “Applying the Genius Hour in the Classroom” to its library.
“[With Genius Hour] it is easy to incorporate Personalized Learning, meeting students at their ‘just right’ level and pace,” said Velvet Holmes, Educator and Atomic Learning eLearning Contributor who created the workshop. “It also compliments Inquiry Based Learning, as it uses a guiding question to lead the research.”
In this online training workshop, educators will learn how to apply the Genius Hour, or 20% time—a concept that has been around since the mid-1900s—in their classroom. During this hour, an employer—such as 3M® or Google™—allows their employees to focus on a passion related to their job for 20% of their work time. This process proves to be an effective way to encourage creativity and innovation.
“Educators will learn how many schools have adopted this concept to work in their classrooms as they explore personalized, inquiry-based, and project-based learning,” Holmes added. “This is a process that gives the teacher flexibility in how it is run, but yet offers students the opportunity to research a topic or interest they may have.”
