New Planet Aid Donation Center Collects More Than 19,000 Pounds in First Week
Newport, RI (PRWEB) June 15, 2015 -- Planet Aid is proud to announce the success of its new donation site in Newport, Rhode Island. The center opened its doors for the first time on May 30 and since then community members have been stopping by with thousands of pounds of donations. Within the first week, Planet Aid collected 19,421 pounds of clothing, books, and household items.
The new donation center, which occupies a former filling station site, is open 24/7. It is providing local residents with a convenient way to drive up and drop off their unwanted belongings and put them to good use. Donations are repurposed and recycled with a part of the proceeds going toward funding for Planet Aid’s global development projects.
Krystal Nolseux of the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation said of the donation site, “Rhode Island Resource Recovery is committed to helping Rhode Islanders reduce, reuse, and recycle. The new Planet Aid donation center in Newport, Rhode Island provides a convenient option for residents who would rather see their old textiles reused or recycled than see them buried in the landfill forever. Using the new center is one small way local residents can make a big difference.”
Residents who are interested in making a donation can visit the center located at 533 Broadway in Newport, Rhode Island. The donation center accepts used clothes, shoes, household textiles, appliances, glassware, sports equipment, books, and more.
