Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) April 08, 2016 -- FireflySci, Inc. is a cool and laidback quartz cuvette manufacturer that gives their customers top-notch service and rock-solid reliability. On the homepage of the FireflySci website is that “FireflySci Guarantee” where a customer is guaranteed that they will receive fast shipping, fast replies to e-mails and phone calls, free returns, and a whole bunch of other cool services. FFS continues to be a trendsetter in the cuvette industry with fresh content published weekly as well as new cutting edge products never seen before.
The latest addition to the killer FFS product line are cuvette spacers that adjust the Z-dimension of a cuvette. The Z-dimension (ZD) is the beam height from the bottom of the cuvette holder to where the light beam enters the cuvette. The three standard ZDs are 8.5 mm, 15 mm, and 20 mm. The height of the beam effects how much of a sample is needed to get an accurate reading. For example, a cuvette that is used with a ZD of 8.5 mm must be filled up to the 12 mm mark for the 2 mm beam to have enough sample for a reading.
When working with expensive samples such as DNA and RNA, the volume needed to fill a quartz cuvette is critical. The new FireflySci cuvette spacers help raise the cuvette in the cell holder so much less sample is needed for a standard 10 mm cuvette. A standard 10 mm lightpath cuvette has a volume of 3.5 mL. For a spectrophotometer with a 15 mm beam height that would mean a minimum sample size of 1.8 mL (10mm x 10 mm x 18 mm) would be needed. Using a small 6.5 mm spacer would allow a scientist the power to raise the bottom of the cuvette 6.5 mm so the volume formula would look like this, 10 mm x 10 mm x 11.5, which gives a volume of 1.15 mL. Less sample equals a tremendous savings in test samples and allows researchers to maximize the use of each test run.
Another benefit of the quartz cuvette spacers is that they make it easy to use black sub-micro cells in any machine in a researcher’s lab. Often, scientists have multiple spectrophotometers from different manufacturers. The different machines have different beam heights which makes it difficult to use certain cuvettes. Having a set of FFS cuvettes spacers will guarantee that a researcher can use any cuvette in any spectrophotometer they have.
Besides the new cuvette spacers the guys at FireflySci are talking about adding a ton of new products in 2016. They have not revealed what they have in mind, but giving their amazing track record everyone is excited to see what they have in store for the cuvette community.
