Charlotte, North Carolina (PRWEB) August 10, 2016 -- As kids head back to school this fall, parents will have more to worry about than making lunches and checking homework. A recent study shows 98% of head lice now carry gene mutations that make them resistant to common treatments.
Research published in the Journal of Medical Entomology shows the so-called Super Lice have been discovered in all 48 states where samples were collected. The study shows lice have built up resistance to the chemicals found in over-the-counter treatments used by a vast majority of families in the U.S.
“This latest study confirms what we see in our clinics daily; families who use over-the-counter shampoos and prescription treatments for months and still have head lice,” says Sheila Fassler, RN, and owner of Pediatric Hair Solutions. “It is our mission to educate and counsel families about how to treat lice effectively and naturally the first time in order to reduce stress and save money.”
The study analyzed data from 138 sites, across the nation. At 132 of the sites, 100 percent of the lice tested evolved to be resistant to the active chemical ingredients found in over-the-counter lice treatments.
Pediatric Hair Solutions uses an FDA-cleared heated air medical device called the AirAlleTM in combination with a safe and non-toxic solution to kill lice and eggs. Lice are unable to become resistant to this natural method and a clinical study proves it to be 100% effective.
Dr. John Fassler, Medical Director at Pediatric Hair Solutions, says persistent head lice is very common when families treat with traditional chemical modalities. Pediatric Hair Solutions is the only licensed healthcare practice treating head lice exclusively in its treatment areas and is recommended by pediatricians and school nurses.
About The Study – The purpose of the study published in the Journal of Medical Entomology was to determine the extent and magnitude of mutations responsible for resistance. Lice were collected from 138 collection sites in 48 U.S. states from July 22, 2013 to May 11, 2015. Previously published data were used for comparisons of the changes in the frequency of the kdr-type mutations over time.
About Pediatric Hair Solutions – Pediatric Hair Solutions is an MD/RN owned and operated head lice treatment center that uses the revolutionary FDA cleared AirAlleTM medical device and all natural products. With nine locations across four states, Pediatric Hair Solutions has treated more than 15,000 children and adults.
