New Resource from P21 and PMIEF Supports Project-Based Learning in Schools
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 02, 2015 -- Today the Partnership for 21st Century Learning (P21), the leading organization bringing together business, education and policymakers around the common goal of 21st century readiness, along with the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation (PMIEF) unveil the new resource, Bringing Project Management into the School Transformation Conversation. This comprehensive toolkit helps project managers and other education stakeholders lend support to strengthen secondary school teaching and learning so that young people graduate ready for college and career.
PMIEF awarded a $475,000 grant to P21 to fund both the toolkit’s creation and a series of education transformation conversations in select communities across the U.S. Available at no cost in print and online at projectmanagment.p21.org, the toolkit offers strategies for integrating project management into secondary school curricula, identifying stakeholders who can support these efforts and determining the community resources necessary for school transformation. It also features project management and project-based learning resources for educators as well as highlights exemplary programs, schools and school districts across the country.
In addition to project managers, the education transformation conversations will include teachers, students, school administrators and business professionals as they explore how best to prepare young people for the 21st century world of work. Following the dialogues, the PMIEF grant will fund schools’ implementation of the actionable plans that these conversations generate.
“The skills that young people need to be successful in the 21st century world of work are unquestionably inherent to project management,” said Michael DePrisco, PMIEF Chief Operating Officer and PMI Vice President of Academic and Educational Programs. “Project management helps them learn how to think creatively, communicate effectively and work collaboratively with their peers. We understand the value that project-based learning adds to the classroom, but equipping teachers and students with project management skills better ensures that they know how to expertly manage those projects.”
