New Resources on Gender and Christianity Now Available
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) January 31, 2016 -- Anyone interested in the Bible’s teachings on women, men, and leadership in the family and the church are gaining access to a new collection of resources. Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) is making a selection of archived lectures on the topic available to the public on YouTube.
CBE teaches an egalitarian interpretation of the Bible’s teachings on gender and leadership. For almost 30 years, CBE has hosted conferences with lectures and workshops delivered by leading Christian scholars. Until recently, this collection of lectures was available only for purchase.
Now, CBE is making selections from its conference recording archives available free of charge on YouTube. The move reflects CBE’s commitment to providing serious, well-argued alternatives to patriarchal interpretations of the Bible, according to Liz Beyer, CBE’s bookstore coordinator, who said, “Christians have long been taught only one interpretation of the Bible, namely, that male authority over women is God’s ideal for male-female relationships in the home, church, and society. Yet, throughout history, many have realized that mutual leadership, not patriarchy, is God’s ideal in Scripture. CBE exists to get the word out that this is the better way. We believe that by sharing these lectures from CBE’s conferences over the years, we empower Christians to better understand God’s Word and its profound, liberating potential for their lives.”
CBE’s lectures feature such influential leaders as N. T. Wright, Gretchen Gaebelein Hull, Gordon Fee, and Eugene Cho. Lectures are available on CBE’s YouTube channel, with more to come. “We’re adding video on a regular basis,” said Beyer, “so be sure to subscribe or come back regularly.”
In its effort to advance a biblical foundation for gift-based rather than gender-based ministry and service, CBE sponsors annual conferences, facilitates local chapters, hosts an online bookstore, and publishes two award-winning journals. For more information, visit http://www.cbeinternational.org.
