New Royal Gorge Bridge & Park Facilities Ready for Visitors
Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 17, 2014 -- A year after wildfires destroyed 48 of the 52 outbuildings, construction on the new Royal Gorge Visitor’s Center and facilities is complete thanks in part to a collaboration between Murphy Company, The Beck Group and Stewart Environmental. The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park recently reopened to the public.
Murphy Company is a mechanical, industrial, commercial and institutional construction company, with Colorado offices in Denver and Colorado Springs. They provided HVAC, plumbing, design-build and design-assist services for the new, Royal Gorge Bridge & Park visitor’s center, restroom building, water treatment and waste water treatment buildings.
Wildfires destroyed the majority of the buildings at the 85-year old Royal Gorge Bridge & Park, which has seen more than 26 million guests since opening in 1929. A significant historical landmark, many of the staff from the Colorado Springs Murphy Company offices have personal connections with the area and the park and took great pride in their role in bringing the landmark up to its better-than-ever status.
According to Murphy Company project manager Sean Kute, “The project’s remote location, intense timeline, additional scope of work, unique architectural design, extreme weather conditions, and budget provided our team with many challenges - all of which I’m proud to say they overcame.” Sean also expressed his appreciation for the collaboration with The Beck Group, including project manager Steve Ludwig and his team of smart - driven to succeed professionals that knew how to fully utilize their resources towards a successful completion of the project.
The Murphy Company design-assist team, led by Dorian Ross, worked to ensure that the HVAC and plumbing systems were not visible from the exterior of the visitor’s center and that they did not interfere with the fantastic views from the observation deck overlooking the Royal Gorge.
During the project design stage, Murphy Company was called upon to review and improve upon the plans when the project was projected to be over budget. Through upfront design-assist services and strong supplier relationships, Murphy Company was able to save the client over $100,000 on various costs to bring the project within budget.
A true engineering and architectural feat, the new visitor’s center put heavy demands on the Murphy Company sheet metal foreman to design, create and install the exposed duct-work that adds to the overall aesthetics of the building allowing the stunning unobstructed view of the Royal Gorge to take center stage.
