New Series From TESOL Press: ELT In Context
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) February 27, 2015 -- TESOL Press, the publishing division of TESOL International Association, announces the release of a new series, ELT In Context, from series editor Andy Curtis. Curtis is a professor in the School of Graduate Education at Anaheim University, California, and the 2015–2016 president of TESOL International Association.
This innovative new series aptly demonstrates the idea that context really is everything in English language teaching. The series authors were asked to step back from their familiar teaching and learning contexts and examine those contexts from an outsider’s perspective. Each volume provides a concise account of a specific context and describes what it is like to live and work in that environment. The authors take readers across different regions of the world.
“The series draws on firsthand author experiences,” notes Myrna Jacobs, Senior Manager of Publications and Product Development at TESOL. “Readers are transported to new geographical, linguistic, and cultural contexts through each text.”
The first volumes to be released are Perspectives on Teaching University-Level English in Colombia, Perspectives on Teaching English at the U.S.-Mexico Border, Perspectives on Teaching English for Specific Purposes in Saudi Arabia, and Perspectives on Teaching Adult English in the Digital World.
Each volume, while distinct in its own right, follows a template. The authors first introduce themselves and explain how they arrived in their particular context as English language teaching professionals. The authors go on to summarize the current English language landscape at the national level in their country, followed by the local level, and then down to the specific language teaching and learning organization where the authors work, all from the perspective of their specific teaching context.
These books are ideal for TESOL professionals who are considering working in language teaching organizations in the contexts and countries described, but they will also provide an effective roadmap for teachers who want to engage in reflective practice.
Seven additional titles, including Teaching English to Chinese Learners at U.S. Community Colleges, Teaching English at a Non-Profit Language School in Cambodia, and Teaching Effectiveness in Difficult Circumstances, are scheduled for release through 2015.
More information on these titles and sample chapters are available through the TESOL Press online bookstore.
Review copies are available on request from TESOL Press.
