New Soft Play Park Created by Center Stage Productions Enhances Family Experience at North Star Mall
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) November 20, 2013 -- North Star Mall has unveiled a brand new soft play park to provide a special space for its youngest shoppers to enjoy. The ongoing drought in San Antonio, Texas inspired North Star Mall, a premier shopping destination within this community, to transform its fountain area into “Tot Lot,” an educationally themed soft play park geared for children up to five years old. Designed and manufactured by Center Stage Productions and sponsored by the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, this family friendly attraction features bold primary colors, letters, numbers, shapes and interactive sounds.
"The water restrictions enacted by the City resulted in the closure of the fountain formerly in front of the JC Penney store. The newly available space provided the perfect chance to create a soft play area for small children," says Michelle Robertson, senior marketing manager for North Star Mall and The Shops at La Cantera. “We’re thrilled to see so many families simply having a great time at Tot Lot and even happier to be able to enhance their shopping experience,” added Robertson.

At the center of the action is the Kids Clubhouse, which children may access through a tunnel tube. In addition to soft foam clusters of numbers and letters, there are multiple brightly hued arches for children to crawl on or under, and a musically-embedded ABC slide which plays scales in ascending or descending order depending on whether the child is climbing up or down. A theatre section featuring a flat screen television accompanied by beanbag chairs and soft bench seating is also part of the fun.
Interactive features, which are geared to improve hand-eye coordination and sensory exploration, include a pathfinder pegs maze game, the wavy “funhouse” mirror, the magic hands touch-activated image creator and a bubble window.
Safety is a big component of the Tot Lot. To that end, heavily padded carpet adorns the area which in addition to completing the educational theme by featuring a hopscotch board, shapes and numbers, is also specially engineered to give kids a safe landing. In fact, it absorbs impact and exceeds standards for drop and fall ratings. Further, all soft play pieces have high-quality smooth foam surfaces and are scaled to size for children’s safety. Best of all, each play piece is coated with naturally antimicrobial urethanes, which inhibit the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms.
North Star Mall’s Tot Lot is free to the public and open during all mall hours, which are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
