New Spanish-Language Romance Novella Explores Coming of Age, Difficulties of Growing Up
WILDOMAR, Calif. (PRWEB) June 20, 2017 -- Eleven months, an eternity, is what separates Lucy from turning 16 and the permission to go out with a boy. To complicate matters, Lucy’s close foursome of friends with Emma, Max and Steve is threatened when her new friend Lily catches the attention of both Max and Steve.
Inspired by her Latino roots, Evelyn González’s title, “La Regla de 16: The 16 Rule” (published by Archway Publishing), is a Spanish-language romance novella aimed at young adults. The book shows Lucy navigating the process of growing up by dealing with inner conflicts and difficulties with her classmates and her parents.
“Whether this was 40 years ago or today, teens feel misunderstood,” González says. “I want my readers to take away the thought that their life isn’t that much different than Lucy’s. I also want them to evaluate their relationship with their parent(s).”
An excerpt from “La Regla de 16”:
El primer día de escuela de verano en Inland Valley High era un día que yo había esperado desde que mi primer año terminó sin incidentes. Desperté con la canción “Butterfly Kisses”, de Bob Carlisle, tocando en la radio. Las palabras me recordaron las veces que me sentaba en el regazo de mi padre parpadeando con nuestras pestañas unidas.
