New Spanish Math Assessment Launched by Northwest Evaluation Association
Portland, OR (PRWEB) January 26, 2015 -- January 26, 2015 – Northwest Evaluation Association™ (NWEA™) announces the launch of a new Spanish-language math test within the Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) assessment.
“In the Irving Independent School District, 40% of our students are English language learners, 94% of whom speak Spanish as their first language,” said Dr. Whit Johnstone, Division Director of Planning, Evaluation and Research at Irving Independent School District in Irving, Texas. “Over 14,000 ELL students are learning in our classrooms every day. Our teachers need tools to steer their class with quick formative Spanish-language mathematics assessments, which will enable them to find the gaps in learning and tailor mathematics instruction for each student to sustain growth. The MAP Spanish Math assessment will help fill that need.”
The MAP Spanish Math assessment is integrated into the computer adaptive MAP system, which provides information to teachers about student learning by pinpointing where students are ready to advance and where they need more support. MAP dynamically adjusts to each student’s level of learning, regardless of grade level, and provides actionable information for teachers to make instructional adjustments as students are ready to learn. MAP Spanish Math scores are comparable to MAP in English scores, and the test aligns to standards, including Common Core State Standards and Texas state standards.

Similar to the English-language version of MAP, the MAP Spanish Math assessment is part of an interim assessment system, and can be given at key points in the school year. It offers immediate feedback for teachers about where students are in their learning.
