New Stray Light Testing Tools Available from FireflySci Calibration Labs
Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) July 20, 2016 -- Stray light is defined as light in a spectrophotometer that does not belong in a given wavelength. If there is an indication of light being transmitted that is not actually there, stray light filters can help ascertain the quantity and presence of this light, which exists in all machines. This is often an issue in the UV range but can also be problematic in the IR range. Liquid cut-off filters work by absorbing all of the light at a given cut-off point, for example, 220nm with a potassium iodide filter, and any light seen by the machine at this wavelength point will be stray light.
While FireflySci possesses traditional UV stray light cut-off filters, the company also offers two additional options. The first of these are a novel series of liquid cut-off filters that work in the range of 800-2,000nm. These NIR stray light filters are a NIST-traceable blend that can check for unwanted stray light at the wavelength points of 800, 1000, 1250, 1370, 1550 and 1950nm. The second tool, which has FireflySci standing alone in the field is its FUV Dual Series photometric and stray light filters, which combines two functions into one filter. Most photometric accuracy filters can be used by running an absorbance/transmission scan and comparing it to the value the certificate of calibration. The way FireflySci’s FUV dual series works is that both sides of the filter have certified values. An absorbance scan should be run on the first side with the white dot and have the filter rotated 180 degrees and also scanned on the second side. Once the results are compared, the differential is the stray light of the machine. This patent-pending design is a unique feature, which removes the need to use cumbersome, expensive liquid stray light filters.
