New Study from A3 Health Shows On-Demand Physical Therapy Service Reduced Hospital Readmission Rates By 49%
Gainesville, Florida (PRWEB) August 04, 2016 -- A new July 2016 study, prepared by A3 Health Solutions Group and utilizing their own research, revealed significant reductions in hospital readmission rates by patients that received on-demand home-based physical or occupational therapy provided by Santa Monica-based WELL, Inc.
WELL's rate of hospital readmission within 30 days after hospital discharge was 36.4% lower than the California average, and 53.3% lower than the average in both New York and Michigan. WELL's readmission rate was 49.5% lower than the national average across all states.

Analyzing the results from WELL data on patient episodes during a 3-month period from January to March 2016, the study found that overall hospitalizations, for any reason, resulted for 10.7% of its patients. This compares favorably to the national average hospitalization rate of 16.0% as well as the state averages for six of the states with the highest utilization of home health services, including California (14.6%), Florida (14.6%), Michigan (15.8%), Texas (16.4%), Illinois (14.9%) and New York (16.4%).

Hospital readmission rates have emerged as a primary area of focus since Congress passed the Affordable Care Act in 2010, which included the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program. This program penalizes hospitals by reducing Medicare payments for excess readmissions within 30 days following discharge. In 2015, more than half of the nation’s hospitals suffered readmission rate penalties, totaling 2,592 hospitals in 49 states (all except Maryland).
