New Study Reveals That Millions of U.S. Women Battle with Body Issues
Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) January 14, 2016 -- The study, which surveyed 5,053 U.S. females, shows that 90 percent of women ages 18 to 24 and 85 percent of women ages 55 to 64 years are unhappy with “at least one” part of their bodies. The study also revealed a rising trend amongst the women surveyed for seeking help from a cosmetic doctor. This number has risen by more than 200 percent. The study also showed that one in five women surveyed are actively planning or considering plastic surgery. Another seven percent have actually pursued cosmetic surgery in the past.
Despite the majority of women in the survey expressing unhappiness with their bodies, less than half have actually invested in cosmetic procedures. The study shows that 57 percent of American women ages 18-64 have not sought any products or services to change the appearance of a body part they are unhappy with.
It is estimated from the study results that women ages 25-34 (about 86 percent of those surveyed) are the most likely age group to pursue products or services to change a part of the body they are unhappy with. Around 40 percent of these women are likely to pursue cosmetic procedures. It is revealed that at age 45, interest in changing the appearance of a body part drops dramatically, though there is an exception for neck procedures, such as neck lifts and neck liposuction. For those who would not pursue cosmetic procedures, the most common reasons cited include debt (60 percent), fear of complications (58 percent), fear of pain (51 percent), hearing negative stories (47 percent), fear of looking worse (41 percent), recovery and downtime (54 percent) and the inability to find a surgeon the patient feels she can trust (40 percent).
Though a large number of women are not actively pursuing cosmetic procedures, there are many who are. The study reveals that the top motivators for women pursuing cosmetic procedures include the desire to feel more comfortable with oneself (65 percent) or a milestone life event like a birthday (29 percent).
